How Chiropractic Care Affects Your Nervous System

chiropractic care for nervous systemWhile all of your body’s systems are important, there is no doubt that your nervous system is one of the most crucial. Your nervous system handles all sensory input, muscle movement, regulates many of your vital organs and is largely responsible for thought. It’s easy to see why any impairment or imbalance in your nervous system can have major consequences.

Problems ranging from difficulties with balance to shooting back pain may all be the result of nerve issues. Whether from traumatic injuries or the accumulation of daily life stressors, nerves become irritated. Furthermore, nerves can also be impinged, or pinched, by bones, joints and muscles.

Injections of steroids and anesthetics are a popular therapy for nerve issues. Surgery is another common treatment. However, these methods are invasive, not guaranteed to work and leave you open to the possibility of infection.

Chiropractic care is an alternative and complementary option to the above treatments. You’ll find that treatment from Grimes Family Chiropractic is safe, completely non-invasive and generally painless. Perhaps best of all, no drugs are ever injected or prescribed.

Nerve Release
When a nerve becomes pinched, or impinged, it can cause pain that shoots a great distance from the source. For example, the sural nerve is responsible for sensation in the entire length of your calf, down to your foot. If it is entrapped at any point, you can have pain in your whole lower leg. Also, the cervical spine contains nerves that innervate the entirety of both your arms. A pinched nerve there can cause numbness, tingling and painful movement from your fingertips to your shoulder.

Using gentle adjustments and other methods such as traction, an experienced chiropractor can carefully release these nerves, restoring normal function and sensation. Patients often notice an improvement after the first treatment.

Soothing Nerves
Even if a nerve is not actually being pinched, it can become inflamed, impeded or irritated. This can be the source of excruciating pain, restricted movement and even mental problems.

Again, non-invasive chiropractic treatment can address this painful problem. Soothing soft tissue release, along with adjustments to correct small misalignments of the spine, allow nerve signals to travel unimpeded. This results in less pain, a sense of calm and even mental balance.
