The most common answers I receive are “not being sick” or “feeling good”. Not bad answers, but I ask people who answer that way if they have ever had a friend or family member who has had diabetes or cancer. Many of those who have been diagnosed with those diseases have had it for years before they have ever experienced any kind of symptoms associated with it.
It is estimated that there are over 8 million people walking around with undiagnosed diabetes, and research shows that most people who have been diagnosed with cancer have had the disease for years before ever experiencing a symptom associated with it.
The medical profession is looking to treat the effects of your condition, whereas chiropractic is looking to treat the cause.
If you look at how healthcare works in our country, you can see why most people think the way they do. We have been taught that we should see our medical doctors when we have a pain or a problem. Once diagnosed, they will give you a drug, lotion or potion to alleviate your symptoms making you “feel better”.
So what is the definition of health? Health is defined as optimal function. One has to look at what controls the health of the human body to fully understand. Most people know that your health is determined by the immune system, but what most people fail to realize is that the brain and nervous system are what control and coordinate the function of every organ, gland, blood vessel and muscle of the body…including the disease-fighting organs of the immune system.
I believe that how one approaches their health determines how positive the outcomes will be. Perhaps the answer to “what is your definition of health” should be shaped by the basic laws of the Universe – specifically, “Cause and Effect.”
The law of cause and effect states that: “For every cause there is an effect, and for every effect there is a cause.” Obeying this law can make all the difference in you and your families health.
The major difference between Modern Medical Care and Chiropractic Care is that the medical profession is looking to treat the effects of your condition, whereas chiropractic is looking to treat the cause.
The next time you, your family or your friends are “sick” or “not feeling good,” give your body a fighting chance with chiropractic. It could change your lives!
